How to Install SportzX on Firestick & Fire TV (Downloader Guide 2026)
The Firestick is one of the best ways to watch SportzX - the app's simple menu layout works brilliantly with a TV remote, and live cricket and football feel right at home on the big screen. Since SportzX is not on the Amazon Appstore, you sideload it with the free Downloader app by AFTVnews. This guide walks through the whole process: preparing your Fire TV, installing Downloader, fetching the APK by code or URL, installing it, and cleaning up afterwards. It takes about ten minutes.
Before you start: what you need
- Any Fire TV device: Firestick Lite, Firestick 4K, Firestick 4K Max (1st or 2nd gen), Fire TV Cube, or a Fire TV Edition smart TV.
- Your Fire TV connected to Wi-Fi and signed in with an Amazon account.
- At least 300-400 MB of free storage - Firesticks have limited space, and a nearly-full stick is the top cause of failed installs. Check under Settings → My Fire TV → About → Storage.
- The Downloader app (free, from the Amazon Appstore) - we install it in Step 2.
Already installed SportzX on your phone? The APK is the same file - the phone version and the TV version are one app. If you want to understand the "SportzX TV" naming you see around the web, read our SportzX TV vs SportzX app explainer.
Step 1 - Prepare your Firestick (unknown sources + ADB)
Fire OS blocks sideloading by default. You need to flip two switches first:
- From the Fire TV home screen, go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options.
- Turn ON "Apps from Unknown Sources". A warning appears - this is normal; accept it.
- Turn ON "ADB debugging". Downloader needs this for some install paths.
Can't see Developer options?
On newer Fire OS versions Amazon hides this menu. Unhide it: go to Settings → My Fire TV → About, highlight your device name (e.g. "Fire TV Stick 4K Max"), and press the select button 7 times. A "You are now a developer" toast appears - go back and Developer options will be there. This is Amazon's own hidden-menu trick, not a hack.
Step 2 - Install the Downloader app
- From the Fire TV home screen, open Find → Search and type "Downloader".
- Select Downloader (by AFTVnews - orange icon with a down arrow) and choose Get / Download.
- Open Downloader once. It asks for permission to access files - allow it, since it needs to save the APK.
- When Downloader first runs, Fire OS asks whether to allow it to install unknown apps. Select Allow - this grants the sideload permission to Downloader only, which is exactly what you want.
Step 3 - Fetch the SportzX APK (code or URL)
Downloader gives you two ways to fetch a file: a short numeric code, or a full URL. The URL method is more reliable (codes rotate - see below), so try the code first and fall back to the URL if it fails.
Method A - Downloader code
- In Downloader's home screen, select the URL/code field and type the code 1499898, then press Go.
- If the code is live, Downloader resolves it to the SportzX APK and starts downloading. If you get an error or a wrong file, the code has rotated - use Method B instead of trying random codes from comment sections.
Method B - Direct URL (recommended)
- In the Downloader field, type the full download URL for the SportzX APK: https://sporttzx.net/download.html - or the direct APK link shown on that page - and press Go.
- Downloader fetches the file (about 20 MB for v3.2) and, when finished, automatically opens the installer.
About Downloader codes: read this first
Downloader codes rotate. The code 1499898 is the most commonly cited SportzX code across third-party guides, and other codes (6889177, 8533602, 6840704, 597282) have appeared on various sites - but any of them can stop working without notice, and different codes have pointed to different app versions at different times. Never trust a code blindly: after downloading, check that the file is the SportzX APK v3.2 (≈20 MB) before installing. If a code fails or fetches something unexpected, use the direct URL method above - it always points at the current file.
Step 4 - Install the APK
- When the download finishes, the Fire TV installer opens showing the SportzX permissions. Scroll down and select Install.
- Wait for "App installed". Select Done (not Open yet - we clean up first).
- Downloader asks if you want to delete the installation file. Select Delete - the APK installer is no longer needed and Firestick storage is precious.
Step 5 - Delete the installer & add to favorites
Sideloaded apps do not appear on the Fire TV home screen's app row by default. To fix that:
- From the home screen, go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → SportzX, or simpler: hold the Home button, choose Apps, scroll to the bottom where sideloaded apps live.
- Highlight SportzX, press the menu button (three lines) on your remote, and choose Move to front - or select it and choose the pin/favorite option on your Fire OS version. Now it sits in your main app row.
- Optional: a Button Mapper-style app can remap a remote button to launch SportzX instantly - handy on match days.
Now open SportzX. No account is needed - you land straight in Live Events, Sports, Categories and Highlights. For the best experience on a TV, open a stream and press the remote's menu/options during playback to reach player settings.
Firestick 4K Max & device notes
| Device | SportzX experience | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Firestick 4K Max (1st & 2nd gen) | Excellent | Fastest Fire TV stick; extra RAM keeps streams smooth and the app responsive. Install steps identical. |
| Firestick 4K | Very good | Handles SportzX comfortably. Same install steps. |
| Firestick Lite / HD | Good | Works fine, but keep storage lean - delete unused apps so installs and updates have room. |
| Fire TV Cube | Excellent | Plenty of power; same sideload process. |
| Older Fire TV Stick (2016-2019) | Usable | Slower menus; use SportzX's "Force Low Quality" mode in Settings if streams buffer. |
One honest caveat: SportzX is a phone-first app, so some buttons are sized for touchscreens. It is fully usable with the Fire TV remote, but a cheap Bluetooth mouse (or the Fire TV phone app's touchpad) makes the Categories grid easier to browse.
Alternative methods (no Downloader)
If Downloader is unavailable in your region's Appstore or you simply prefer another route:
- Send Files to TV: install "Send Files to TV" on both your Android phone and the Firestick, download the APK on your phone from our download page, and beam it across your Wi-Fi. Open it on the Firestick with a file manager and install.
- USB drive: copy the APK to a USB stick, plug it into the Firestick via an OTG adapter, and open it with a file manager like File Commander. You still need "Apps from Unknown Sources" enabled.
- ADB from a computer: with ADB debugging on, run
adb install sportzx.apkfrom your PC. Fastest if you already use ADB, overkill otherwise.
Troubleshooting Firestick install problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Downloader code gives an error or wrong file | The code has rotated. Use the direct URL method (Step 3, Method B) instead. |
| "App not installed" after tapping Install | Free up storage (uninstall unused apps), re-download the APK, and make sure an old SportzX version is uninstalled first. |
| Parse error | The download was interrupted - re-download on stable Wi-Fi and confirm the file ends in .apk. |
| "Install blocked" message | "Apps from Unknown Sources" is off, or was enabled globally instead of for Downloader. Check Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options and Downloader's own install permission. |
| SportzX opens but streams buffer | Enable Force Low Quality in SportzX Settings; try another stream server on the event card; restart the Firestick (hold Select + Play for 10 seconds). |
| App icon missing from home screen | Normal for sideloaded apps - use Move to front from the Apps screen as in Step 5. |
Safety checklist
- Enable "Apps from Unknown Sources" only for Downloader, only while installing. Turn it off again afterwards - the installed app keeps working.
- Keep ADB debugging off when you are not actively using it.
- Verify what you download. The current SportzX build is v3.2, about 20 MB. If a code or link hands you a file with a wildly different size or name, do not install it.
- Streams are third-party. SportzX aggregates links from unverified sources - it is not a licensed broadcaster. Check your local laws around streaming, and many Firestick users run a VPN for privacy (install a VPN app from the Amazon Appstore before streaming).
- Expect ads inside the app - SportzX is free and ad-supported. Do not install "mod" versions promising ad-free SportzX; there is no official mod.
Installing on a phone too? The phone process is slightly different (per-app permissions instead of Developer options) - see how to install SportzX on Android. For a smart TV that runs Android TV rather than Fire OS, see SportzX on Android TV.
Frequently asked questions
Downloader codes for SportzX rotate and change over time. The code 1499898 is the most commonly cited one across third-party guides, but codes can stop working without notice - if it fails, use the direct APK URL method in this guide instead of hunting for another code.
Yes. You can send the APK from your phone with the Send Files to TV app, or install it from a USB drive using a file manager. The Downloader app is simply the easiest method for most people.
Yes. The Firestick 4K Max runs SportzX well - its faster chip and extra RAM handle streams smoothly. The install steps are identical to other Fire TV models.
The usual causes are 'Apps from Unknown Sources' not enabled for the Downloader app, low storage on the stick, or a corrupted APK download. Enable the permission, free up space by deleting unused apps, and re-download the file.
Enable it only for the Downloader app and only while installing SportzX, then turn it off again. Keep ADB debugging off unless you actively need it for another method. This keeps the sideloading risk minimal.
